We are spending two days this week reviewing the Scientific Method. We studied back in August and September, but definitely need a refresher!
To review, we did two experiments. In each experiment, we came up with a scientific question (that could be proven, not based on someone's opinion). The students created a hypothesis and then listed their materials and the procedure of the experiment. Finally, they list their observations (what they found out/their data) and their conclusion (if their hypothesis was right or wrong.
The first experiment was done to find the answer to: What happens to gummy bears when they are put in water overnight?
Their first job was to record the color of their gummy bear as well as measure the height and width of the bear using millimeters. Then, they had to weigh their gummy bear using grams.
The next step of the experiment was to put 50 milliliters of water in the cup and let the gummy bears soak overnight. We will check on them Friday morning.
However, at lunch (just an hour or two after we watered our bears), the 4th graders noticed that they were already starting to expand!
