Reading Rubrics

On Tuesday, students learned how teachers grade their work--we use rubrics!  Students received their own rubric and we worked as a class and looked at students' examples in their Reading Journals.  Right now, we only gave scores on Neatness and Mechanics.  Later on, they will get scores for other things.

After practicing a bit, students met with each other to score some more examples.  They had to give each student a score as well as defend why they were giving it a score of 1,2, or 3 (I told them it was like they were at Parent-Teacher conferences!).

It was amazing that students were tough graders and really analyzed and thought about why a student should receive a particular score.

Brady, Owen,  Jace, and Drake use the rubrics in their Reading Journals to discuss scores they gave their peers.

MaKeesha and Drake look at the student example on the board, while Megan and Princess discuss their scoring.
