Indoor Recess

We have had indoor recess for the past 2 weeks straight (with the exception of one time outside--the kids were pretty sure they would not survive out there). So, what do the kids do with their time (besides get a case of cabin fever)?

Games
(Monopoly, Connect Four, Apples to Apples Junior, Life, Skip-Bo, and Chess are the most popular)

Drawing

Beyblades
- don't feel badly if you don't know what they are. I would be clueless about them if I didn't teach fourth grade. However, I hear "One...Two...Three...let 'er rip" about 30 times a day. Like me, the girls don't get it and just roll their eyes. I tell the girls that it is a "boy" thing and they shouldn't even try to "get it;" it will make the rest of their lives easier.
Finally, a new activity that I have never seen in all my years of teaching...

A make-believe wedding-
That's right! Some of the kids (not all) thought it would be a great idea to have their Beanie Babies get married. Not quite sure how this started but it became a well-attending event during recess.

The bride, a turkey named "Gob-riella," and a Duck (unfortunately I can't remember his name) were married in the shelter of a white chapel that was designed and constructed by students. The whole thing lasted about 2 minutes. Bob and Scoop, both pelicans, were in attendance.

If you would like these photos for their senior year or their own wedding videos, I'd be happy to share! :)

Preparing the bride and groom on the aisle for the wedding.

Setting up the chapel for the wedding.

The happy couple. Notice that "Gob-riella" has her arm around her husband, Duck.

It was a great reminder to me that they are still kids. Too bad they don't have state assessments on pretending and playing with others. These kids would rock the house (they will anyways, though)!
