Math Centers

We are just finishing up one of our biggest/longest/most challenging units in math. This unit has covered a ton of stuff. Most of the concepts are new and are building the foundation for algebraic thinking. This includes
  • Variables (using letters as unknowns in math sentences, such as x + 23 + 79
  • Using parentheses in math sentences
  • True and False number sentences
  • Story/Word problems
  • Factors and Multiples
  • Multiplication/division
  • Measurement to the nearest 1/2 inch.
For the past two days, students worked through math centers to review before the test.

Carson measures objects to the nearest 1/2 inch.

Hanna works at measuring a screwdriver to the nearest 1/2 inch.

Courage sorts the true and false number sentences.

Lauren and Addi figure out factors for numbers using rulers and clothespins.

Dawson picks out the story/word problems he wants to do.

Courage and Gaby solve variable "egg" problems.

Mary and Thomas solve the apple parentheses problem (it's amazing how much more fun math can be with some plastic play food!)
