Writing Repeated Words

During Writer's Workshop we have been working on using repeated words in our writing and noticing when professional authors use repeating words.

On Thursday, they practiced writing sentences using repeated words by writing sentences about pictures that were around the room.

"The rain kept coming and coming until the streets were flooding."
"The lightning was flashing and flashing over and over."
"I kept staring and staring and sniffing and sniffing until the cookies were done baking."
"The sand underneath the man's feet was crunching and crunching when he was running."
"Fergie was purring and purring before she fell asleep on the couch."
"She kept gluing and gluing until her hands were stickier and stickier."
"The sun kept melting and melting the snowman."
"The cyclone was spinning faster and faster."
"The twister was getting closer and closer and I was running and running to my cellar."
